Early days, rise to prominence

Goetia are a Brighton Jazz-Funk band formed in 2023. Originally under the name “ILLFxx and Friends”, the group started under a 6-piece lineup. Known for their jazz-funk fusion, “ILLFxx and Friends” quickly picked up steam as one of the most exciting bands in Brighton’s funk scene. The band would later change their name to their current ‘Goetia’ (Pronounced “Go-Ay-Sha) but would be stuck in recording hell as their dedicated fanbase waited for a single release.

Single releases, departures

In September 2024, they would finally release “Panic!”, followed by “Fear”, “Sandwich” and “Pumpkin Ravioli” back to back. However, a while after an acclaimed performance at BIMM’s End of Year gig at Concorde 2, the band would face lineup changes as Alex Lemondis would leave to focus on his other band Divorce Attorney. Later, Hutchings, O’Sullivan and Jenkins would leave the band amidst the release schedule.

Hiatus, new lineup and album release

The band would go on a short hiatus, but would bounce back after recruiting Collin Collet, Rhy Roberts (Ponceau), Matt Cowdry (Devils Lotus/Fat Lloyd) and Nicolas Uslu to the group. Closely associated with Two Pounds Down, they would also take a while to release a new single. However, the drought would eventually end with the release of their self-titled debut album in August 2026. This would be supported by the event Goatfest, organised by GOAT Promotions, but it would be marred by the departure of long-time member Swenzen.
