MORSE are a Brighton-based metal band associated with BN1 Arts, documented by the Brighton Music Archive.

Formation, debut at Brighton Dome

The band formed in October 2023 as students at BN1 Arts originally with Erika McDermott on vocals. They would have their debut gig at Brighton Dome in November that same year on a show promoted by Create Music UK, they would adopt their unique image of wearing balaclavas on stage and in promotional material at the same show. Unfortunately, the band would be marred by the early departure of McDermott in March 2024.

New vocalist, gigs and debut single

The band would return in May with a new vocalist, Evalyn Edwards, who would later form the duo Ev and Matt with bassist Matt Powers. The group would debut the new lineup at Waterbear Venue before undergoing a gigging period around the Brighton indie scene for the next couple of months. This would culminate in the release of their debut single ‘Vicious Cycle’ on the 4th July which would also be supported by a music video.

Further gigs, Kerrang, quiet period

Following the release show, MORSE would begin to gig further around Brighton, the band would even begin to gig outside the city. Eventually, they would enter into the Kerrang ‘The Deal’ competition 2026 for the chance to perform at Download Festival. Unfortunately, they would not be successful despite making the shortlist and the band would go quiet afterwards. No announcement of hiatus or future plans have been made since.
